John Johnston

Serve Pastor

John is the Serve Pastor here at FBC, where many of his duties include day to day operations and administration, as well as overseeing the church’s involvement in local ministry. Although he was born in Mobile, John grew up in Florida. One of his cherished childhood memories is fishing with his grandfather. He first started his relationship with Christ when he was 19, and he felt a call to ministry when he was 20. He completed an undergraduate degree from the University of South Alabama in education. He went on to receive a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He would later receive his Doctor of Ministry from Beeson Divinity School. Before coming to FBC in 2004, he served at various churches in the Mobile area for 24 years, and he spent 10 years at Moffet Road Baptist Church. He enjoys vacationing, and one his favorite spots is Gatlinburg. Some of his other hobbies include reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He likes a good steak and he’s not big on sweets, but occasionally enjoys dark chocolate. His favorite movie is “The Shawshank Redemption.” Some of his favorite books include The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard, The Forgotten Jesus by Robby Gallaty, The Reason for God by Tim Keller, The Complete Sherlock Holmes The Complete Sherlock Holmes by A. Conan Doyle, and, of course, The Bible. Some of the best advice John has heard is to “Remember that every person you meet was created in God’s image and is someone for whom Jesus loved enough to carry his or her sins to the cross.”
